Bio
Mengmeng Luo (Momo), born in 1999 in Changsha, Hunan, currently lives and works in London. She graduated from Chelsea College of Arts and Design. Her practice spans avant-garde cinema and extended moving-image-based media. She specializes in collaborating with artists across disciplines on commissioned works, aiming to exploit and deconstruct industrial film production processes—fragmenting, blurring, and recombining them—ultimately evolving into works of re-mediated, aggregated forms.
She is attentive to the aftereffects of historical situationism, using loose narratives to highlight overlooked contradictions or imminent crises. Her works also engage with transformations both on and off the screen: the moving image functions simultaneously as a historical reconstruction of cinematic techniques and as a medium for three-dimensional spatial experience.
Momo’s film Glitch in the Matrix won an award at the Athens International Festival of Film Art and was exhibited at the 2023 Rea Art Fair in Milan. In 2024, she was shortlisted for the 18th Venice Laguna Art Prize. In May of the same year, she participated in a residency at Xu Liaoyuan MOMA in Chengdu, China, where she collaboratively created the architectural sculpture Moment. She also worked with Snap Collective to publish her first artist book, Immobile Deterritorialisation.
