Bio

Luo Mengmeng (Momo), born in 1999 in Changsha, Hunan, and based in London, is a visual artist and graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design. Her work, spanning film, sculpture, and architecture, creates surreal narratives that transcend time. Drawing from her experience as a journalist and film director, she explores the intersection of societal beliefs, media, and collective memory during significant cultural shifts.

Momo's film Glitch in the Matrix won an award at the 2022 Athens International Film and Arts Festival and was showcased at the Rea Art Fair in Milan(2023). She was also in finalist in the 18th Arte Laguna Prize in Venice (2024). she participated in a residency at Xu Liaoyuan MOMA in Chengdu, China(2024), where she co-created the architectural sculpture Moment. She also published her first artist book, Immobile Deterritorialisation, with Snap Collective. She is also one of the co-founders of the London-based art organisation the Afterpiece in 2025.

Statement

In her early film and video works, momo drew narrative structures from stage plays, using fixed scenes and non-temporal images. Influenced by the structure of filmmaking, in the early 20th century she blended commercial film shooting model with experimental storytelling techniques.

Through this, she recognized the limitations of the two-dimensional film screen in conveying information. She experimented with creating three-dimensional symbols that extended beyond the traditional screen in London, such as projecting images onto a moving advertising truck in Chelsea sqaure.

Momo's creations of three-dimensional art, such as installations, are mostly inspired by film and television scenes. Her current work integrates architecture, installation, sculpture, and video. She places the audience in the perspective of actors and focuses on creating an unrealistic experience at the exhibition site. These experiences encourage viewers to observe and reflect from a new perspective.
